The latest Mini Convertible, based on the fourth-gen 3-door hatch, brings an exhilarating open-top driving experience to India. Its design echoes the hatch with iconic circular LED headlamps and a flush fabric roof, available in black for the Indian market. The rear features distinctive pebble-shaped taillamps with Union Jack patterns, and a 215-litre boot. The convertible roof mechanism, while requiring continuous toggle operation, uniquely includes a sliding sunroof for a semi-open-air option.
The interior boasts a mesmerizing 240mm circular OLED display as the central hub, with fabric upholstery adding a chic touch. While space is ample in the front, the rear seats are best suited for children. Feature highlights include wireless smartphone integration, Harman Kardon audio, powered seats, dual-zone climate control, and ADAS. Performance is described as 'Go-Kart' like, powered by a 2.0-litre Twin Power turbo engine delivering 204bhp and 300Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, achieving 0-100kmph in 6.9 seconds.
This convertible prioritizes pure driving joy, with precise steering and agile handling that minimize body flex despite the lack of a fixed roof. While the ride is stiff, it remains manageable. Expected to launch around Rs 55 lakh, it aims to be the most affordable convertible in India, appealing to those who value the unadulterated feeling of open-air driving above all else.
