Melanie Prince, who has battled addiction for years, has organized Milton Keynes' first dry disco, aiming to provide an alcohol-free entertainment option.
Prince's own struggle with addiction led to severe health consequences, including a near-fatal condition requiring a potential liver transplant. Now sober for seven years, she hopes this event will showcase that enjoyable nightlife is achievable without alcohol, addressing loneliness and boredom often experienced in recovery.
The dry disco event, held at The Grand Sultan, is a personal initiative for Prince, who aims for it to be the first of many. The initiative also serves to raise funds for Drug and Alcohol Family Support (Dafs), an organization supporting families affected by addiction.
Dafs has lauded Prince's endeavor, highlighting the need for alcohol-free venues for individuals in recovery and their loved ones. They emphasized the difficulty in finding such spaces, making this a welcomed prospect for the community.
