Mathura Trucker's Terrifying Encounter with a Spectacled Cobra on the Road

On the night of September 27, 2025, truck driver Raju Bhai had a terrifying encounter with a Spectacled cobra while transporting a consignment of suitcases and trolley bags from Ghaziabad to Zirakpur. Unbeknownst to Raju Bhai, the cobra had been coiled under his seat for hours, periodically issuing hisses that the driver had mistaken for various mechanical issues.

It was only when the cobra emerged and perched on the water cooler, just a foot from Raju Bhai's ear, that he realized the true nature of the strange noises. Raju Bhai, who is based in Mathura, immediately fled the truck's cabin and contacted the vehicle's owner, who in turn alerted the Haryana Wildlife department.

An animal rescue team from the Ambala-based NGO Vande Matram Dal was dispatched to the scene and successfully removed the adult, silvery-black cobra from the truck. Raju Bhai, who had initially feared the cobra's hisses could cause his "flesh to burn and decay," was relieved to learn that such superstitions were unfounded.

Despite the close proximity to the venomous snake for hours, Raju Bhai remained unharmed, which he attributed to the cobra's reluctance to bite unless provoked. The driver even quipped that he interpreted the hisses as the cobra's way of saying, "Bhole (Lord Shiva) is with you on this journey."
