4 May
Summary
- Man recovering from spinal injury will trek 37 miles.
- The journey is to thank surgeons who aided his recovery.
- He has raised around £9,000 for the hospital so far.

Glenn Meyer, a 66-year-old from Caterham, Surrey, is preparing for a significant personal challenge: a 37-mile, three-day trek to the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) in Stanmore. This journey, described as a "walk back to happiness," is his way of expressing gratitude to the surgeons who treated him.
Meyer's life was dramatically altered in September 2020 when he suffered a spinal injury, leaving him wheelchair-bound for almost three years. The injury resulted from popping three discs in his back due to an undiagnosed spinal condition. He underwent surgery in October 2023, which included the insertion of a titanium frame around his spine.
Following surgery, Meyer set an initial goal to walk to his local pub before Christmas 2023, a feat he successfully accomplished. He has since been training for the upcoming 37-mile walk. Meyer has also been fundraising for the RNOH, raising around £9,000 towards his £10,000 goal.
The trek is scheduled to commence on Tuesday and conclude on Thursday at the hospital, marking a triumphant return to mobility and a testament to his determination.
