Will Tishinski, 92, has achieved a significant milestone, becoming the largest cumulative donor in the Victoria Hospital Foundation's history. His most recent contribution, exceeding $531,000, was made in loving memory of his wife, Mavis. This transformative gift is earmarked for upgrades to a minimally invasive surgical suite, which will now be known as the Mavis Tishinski Surgical Suite.
Mavis, a dedicated nurse, spent three decades at Victoria Hospital, many of those years working in the operating room. She was among the first nurses trained in laparoscopic surgery at the facility. The Tishinski couple's combined donations have now surpassed $1 million, with previous contributions supporting an outdoor space for mental health patients and a sensory lounge for dementia patients.
The couple's enduring love story began at Victoria Hospital in 1956 when Will, then a student, was admitted and met Mavis, a student nurse on his ward. They married and shared 67 and a half years together until Mavis passed away in April at age 88. Will described her as a perfect nurse and an even more perfect wife, profoundly changing his life.
