Malton Defies Festive Cancellation, Hosts Christmas Market
14 Nov, 2025
Summary
- Malton Christmas Festival cancelled due to rising costs
- Traders approached organizer to plan new Christmas market
- Market to feature artisan, street, and farmer's markets
In a move to defy the cancellation of Malton's annual Christmas festival, the town will host a new Christmas market on December 6-7, 2025. The Malton Christmas Festival was scrapped in October due to "rising operating costs", but traders in the North Yorkshire town have rallied to revive the beloved holiday event.
Simon Boak of The Events Office has stepped in to organize the two-day market, which will feature an artisan market, a traditional street market, and a farmer's market. The event will also include brass bands, Christmas choirs, live music, and a fair. According to Boak, the market is already generating significant interest, with many bookings coming in.
The decision to cancel the annual festival was made by the Malton Estate, which had previously organized the markets through its promotional company Visit Malton. However, the move was met with criticism from local traders, who say the market is crucial to their businesses, especially during the slow post-holiday season in January.
