Tricity Devotees Mark Mahashivaratri with Fervor

The Tricity was alive with devotion as residents observed Mahashivaratri. Large numbers of devotees gathered at various temples, queuing to offer milk, water, and other traditional items. Elaborate celebrations, including prasad distribution, communal kitchens (langar), and devotional singing (bhajan programmes), were held throughout the day and into the night, marking the auspicious occasion with deep reverence.
Saketri Temple witnessed one of the major gatherings, with thousands waiting since midnight to offer prayers and perform 'abhishek' to Lord Shiva. The temple premises were adorned with flowers and lights, and temporary shops offered puja items. Temple president K D Sharma noted the tremendous excitement and special arrangements for rituals and langar, with an estimated 250 quintals of milk ordered for the event.
Other prominent temples, such as Shiv Shakti Mandir and Gauri Shankar temple, also reported significant footfalls and organized special 'jal abhishek' and 'rudra abhishek' ceremonies. Langar services, featuring milk, fruits, and various sweets, were provided. Across Panchkula, Mohali, and Chandigarh, temples experienced large crowds and conducted religious programs, echoing with chants of "Har Har Mahadev" and showcasing the community's shared faith.
