Magh Mela 2026 Begins: Over 15 Lakh Expected for Holy Dip

The 44-day Magh Mela has commenced in Prayagraj, with Paush Purnima marking its first day and drawing an anticipated 15 lakh pilgrims for a holy dip. This figure is expected to surpass the attendance of the 2024 Mela, which saw over 9.80 lakh devotees. Preparations include a robust security deployment of over 10,000 police and paramilitary personnel.

Thousands have already begun taking holy dips, signaling strong spiritual engagement for the 2026 Mela. Notably, approximately 4 lakh Kalpvasis are starting their month-long disciplined spiritual retreat at the Sangam. These devotees observe minimalistic living and regular prayers for personal and global welfare.

Pilgrims from various districts and southern states have converged, chanting devotional slogans. The vibrant atmosphere extends to market areas, with increased vendors of puja materials. Religious scholars note a heightened spiritual enthusiasm among devotees for this auspicious period, which began on January 2nd.
