Summary
- The electric motorcycle offers a smooth, quiet ride, unlike combustion engines.
- Its retrofuturistic design evokes classic British motorcycles.
- The $10,995 Maeving RM2 has performance and refinement issues for its price.

The Maeving RM2 presents a unique blend of retrofuturistic style and serene electric performance, aiming to bridge the gap between high-end scooters and entry-level motorcycles. Its design echoes classic British bikes, but without the noise and vibration of internal combustion. The RM2 distinguishes itself with a remarkably quiet and smooth ride, thanks to its hub motor. However, this elegance is marred by several practical drawbacks that question its $10,995 price tag.
The RM2's electric hub motor provides 15 horsepower and ample torque for brisk acceleration, but it struggles to reach higher speeds, topping out around 63mph in its most powerful mode. This limitation, coupled with a suspension that falters on rougher roads and a loose mirror on the tested unit, creates an unsettled riding experience. The removable battery packs, designed for convenient charging, proved finicky to release, and their 36-pound weight with thin handles makes them cumbersome to carry.
Despite these issues, the Maeving RM2 offers a low 30.5-inch seat height and a manageable 320-pound weight, making it easy to handle. The bike also features a unique storage compartment where a fuel tank would typically be. However, real-world range is closer to 50 miles in Sport mode, and charging takes about four hours for 80 percent capacity, limiting its suitability for long distances. The optional accessories, like a J1772 adapter for $440, further inflate the cost, reaching $13,275 for the fully equipped model tested.
