A unique approach to disability care is emerging in Japan, spearheaded by Visionary Inc.'s "macho caregivers." These professionals, who are also competitive bodybuilders, bring a powerful and positive energy to their work.
About 20 of the company's 340 caregivers are part of this initiative, with seven forming the "7SeaS" fitness team. They dedicate six hours to caregiving and two to training, receiving a monthly allowance for supplements and competition costs. Company president Yusuke Niwa was inspired by the dedication of bodybuilders, seeing a parallel with the persistence required in caregiving.
This program, established in 2018, aims to attract younger individuals to the caregiving profession. The average employee age is now in the early 30s, which has improved workplace communication. Recruitment has surged dramatically, from approximately 10 applications annually to an anticipated 1,200 this fiscal year.
Initially, some clients were hesitant, but the caregivers' healthy physiques and warm smiles have built trust. Team members report that clients feel more secure knowing they can be handled safely. The company is expanding into elder care and developing exercise services to prevent the need for nursing care.
