In a groundbreaking development at 1 Mayfair, British billionaire John Caudwell is creating what is intended to be London's most desirable and valuable residence. This unprecedented £2 billion project will house 29 exclusive homes, including three penthouses valued at £200 million each. A significant feature of this grand development will be a 1000-book library, meticulously curated by Peregrine Cavendish, the Duke of Devonshire.
The Duke, owner of the renowned book salon Heywood Hill, is assembling a collection that will highlight London's history, heritage, authors, and novels set within the city. This literary treasure trove is estimated to cost around £250,000, a figure the Duke suggests is comparable to the cost of a single piece of art. The luxury address, slated for completion this spring, will offer residences starting from £35 million, with an average price nearing £70 million for its 300,000 sq ft of space.
Residents will also enjoy amenities such as a health spa and a 20-meter swimming pool. Despite the high price point, Caudwell reports a waiting list of over 600 interested buyers eager to secure a property. The development's extensive underground construction, reaching 90 feet below ground, accommodates these facilities and more. Designed by New York-based architect Robert Stern and his practice RAMSA, the project aims for unparalleled craft, uniqueness, and flair.
