4 Nov
Summary
- Lucknow police propose 1,201 temporary firecracker shops.
- Only green crackers, causing 30% less pollution, are allowed.
- Shops must meet stringent safety norms and distance requirements.
In anticipation of Diwali, Lucknow police have proposed the establishment of 1,201 temporary firecracker shops at 60 designated sites throughout the city. These proposed outlets are to be distributed across Lucknow's five zones. The locations have been carefully selected, with Sainik Ground in Sarojininagar allocated the highest number of shops. Vendors will be required to obtain licenses and equip their outlets with essential safety measures, including water drums, fire extinguishers, and sand.
Strict safety regulations are being enforced to minimize fire risks. Shops must be situated at least 50 meters away from protected structures like schools and hospitals, with clear passages maintained for crowd movement and emergency access. Only green crackers, defined as producing 30% less pollution and within a specific decibel range, will be permitted for sale. The sale of high-decibel items such as rockets and bombs is prohibited. Police are actively conducting checks for illegal sales and storage, warning that licenses can be revoked for any violations. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activities to aid enforcement efforts.
