- Homelessness in London reached a record high this year.

This festive season, a significant initiative is underway to support London's rough sleeping community. More than 1,400 specialist rucksacks, known as CITYPAK, are being distributed, intended as a symbol of dignity for those experiencing homelessness. These thoughtfully designed bags are equipped with practical features, including waterproof ponchos and reflective safety elements to enhance user well-being.
The distribution effort is being spearheaded by The Connection, a prominent London homeless charity. They are handing out the rucksacks at St Martin-in-the-Fields, near Trafalgar Square, extending their support to hundreds of individuals sleeping rough daily. This initiative aims to provide essential aid and a sense of respect to vulnerable individuals.
The distribution occurs against a backdrop of escalating homelessness in the city. Recent counts indicate that over 13,000 people were observed sleeping rough in the 2024-2025 period. This figure represents the highest number ever recorded by the Combined Homelessness and Information Network, highlighting the urgent need for such charitable interventions.
