London Toy Appeal Needs Your Help This Christmas
30 Nov
Summary
- Annual toy appeal in north and east London seeks donations.
- Organizers fear a drop in donations due to budget pressures.
- Over 37,000 gifts have been distributed since the appeal began.

The Hackney Local Buyers Club is appealing for donations for its 12th annual Christmas toy drive, which aims to bring festive cheer to children in extreme hardship across north and east London. Organizers are concerned that increased pressure on household budgets may lead to a significant drop in donations this year, potentially impacting the number of children who receive gifts.
This year's appeal specifically targets children in the deprived boroughs of Hackney and Haringey. The project not only supports families but also local independent businesses, as donated funds are spent with local traders. Since its beginning, the Winter Toy Appeal has successfully distributed over 37,000 new gifts, with typically 3,000 to 5,000 gifts given out annually.
Co-founder Jenna Fansa highlighted the slow start to this year's appeal, emphasizing the urgent need for community support. Various donation methods are available, including purchasing items from an Amazon wishlist, making financial contributions via GoFundMe, or donating toys directly at the appeal's storage hub. The appeal seeks brand new items like craft sets, remote-controlled cars, soft toys, and LEGO.
