Lincolnshire Man Honors Late Mother with Charity Hike in Handmade Tattle Coat

On November 17th, 2025, 51-year-old Peter Gale, a Morris dancer from Market Deeping in Lincolnshire, completed a 10km (6.2 mile) charity hike in honor of his late mother. Gale took part in the event, which was originally organized as the Sue Ryder Starlight Hike, but had been canceled last month due to Storm Amy.

Undeterred, Gale decided to go ahead with the hike, accompanied by his wife and friends. He used the opportunity to raise £1,400 for Thorpe Hall Hospice in Peterborough, where the staff had cared for his mother at the end of her life.

Gale chose to wear a colorful tattle coat during the hike, which he had made together with his mother. "When the chance came to raise funds for the hospice that cared for her so well, it felt only right to walk in her honor wearing the coat we made together," he explained.

The heartfelt tribute showcased Gale's deep appreciation for the hospice staff and the special bond he shared with his mother, who had helped him create the unique costume he wore during the charity event.
