Kolkata Pets Brace for Diwali Noise: Owners Take Soundproofing Measures

As the Diwali festival approaches in Kolkata, pet owners in the city have started taking various measures to safeguard their furry companions from the noise of firecrackers. In the past week, many pet parents have been working to make their homes more soundproof, closing windows and doors to muffle the sound as much as possible.

Alongside soundproofing, pet owners are also employing other tactics to keep their pets calm and comfortable. These include distracting the animals with toys, playing soothing music, and even exposing them to recorded sounds of crackers at low volumes to help them acclimate. Some have also consulted veterinarians, who have prescribed mild calming tablets, homeopathic medicines, and even lavender oil for local application to soothe anxious dogs and cats.

Veterinarians have advised pet owners to keep their animals well-hydrated and engaged before the Diwali celebrations begin. They have also recommended the use of pheromone diffusers and calming supplements to help manage the pets' anxiety levels. The experts have emphasized that the noise of crackers can affect a dog's hearing up to 10 times more than a human's, and the smell can also trigger respiratory issues in pets.
