Old housing societies in South Kolkata are preparing for Durga Puja with unique initiatives that emphasize community bonding and social outreach. These celebrations, often spanning decades, are being organized jointly by residents, fostering unity and a shared spirit.
At Adhunika Cooperative Housing Society, Lake Gardens, approximately 20-25 elderly women will conduct the 47th annual puja. Residents will enjoy five days of community meals and cultural performances, featuring both local artists and society members.
Golpark Cooperative Housing Society is celebrating its 33rd year with a host of cultural events, competitive games, and communal lunches. The idol and its installation are sponsored by members each year, enhancing a sense of belonging, while enhanced lighting will illuminate the premises.
Daffodil Greens Home Owners Association in Tollygunge will mark its 22nd puja by distributing new clothes to domestic staff on Sashthi, embodying a traditional spirit. Traditional idol forms and specific timing for Ashtami Anjali will be observed, with non-vegetarian dishes served, and actress Indrani Haldar set to inaugurate the festivities.
Other societies like Nijanir Cooperative Housing Society and Rajat Avante are also dedicated to maintaining their unique historical and cultural identities, ensuring Durga Puja remains an integral part of their community, bringing residents of all ages together.
