Actress Katie Lowes, 43, has opened up about her parenting preferences, revealing that she vastly prefers raising her older children over the baby phase. In a recent interview, Lowes, who shares a 5-year-old and an 8-year-old with her husband Adam Shapiro, candidly admitted, "I did not love babies."
Lowes explained that the challenges of the baby stage, such as lack of sleep and breastfeeding, were overwhelming. "The whole baby vibe is like the whole no sleeping thing while working and breastfeeding and all that. I did it, but it's insane," she said. However, Lowes now finds joy in the more advanced stages of parenting, stating, "I just like talking about real stuff. When [my son] asks hard questions about like, 'Where do you go when you die?,' and stuff like that, I'm like, 'Let's get into it.'"
The actress also expressed excitement about the upcoming teenage years, saying, "The actor in me is very excited about [the teen years]. I'm not scared about the teenage stuff. I'm kind of into it." Lowes considers herself a "fun mom" who gives her kids room to breathe and be themselves, rather than over-parenting.
Despite the difficulties of parenthood, Lowes recognizes it as the most rewarding and transformative experience of her life. "It's the hardest thing I've ever done in my entire life because it teaches you the most about yourself," she explained. Lowes is grateful for the opportunities her acting career has provided for her family, allowing her children to accompany her on various film and television projects.
