Kadamakudy Island Gears Up for Tourism Boom After Mahindra's Bucket List Shoutout

Summary
- Industrialist Anand Mahindra's social media post sparked surge in visitors to Kadamakudy
- ₹8 crore budget allocated for tourism development plan by District Tourism Promotion Council
- Plan focuses on infrastructure, water sports, and promoting local culture and cuisine

In September 2025, the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) is putting the finishing touches on an ambitious tourism development project for Kadamakudy, a scenic island located on the outskirts of Kochi. The plan comes after the island grabbed national attention earlier this year when industrialist Anand Mahindra shared on social media that visiting Kadamakudy was on his bucket list for his upcoming business trip to Kochi.
After Mahindra's post, which included a 25-second video of the island, the number of visitors to Kadamakudy increased significantly. The DTPC's tourism development plan now focuses on both infrastructural improvements and the introduction of new tourism activities. The region will see the addition of water sports, experiential tourism offerings, and the necessary supporting infrastructure. The council has allocated a budget of around ₹8 crore for the project.
"Kadamakudy is known for its idyllic village aesthetics, but it doesn't have the infrastructure to accommodate its rising tourism needs," explains K.N. Unnikrishnan, the MLA who represents the Vypeen Assembly constituency, which includes the island. The DTPC's plan aims to promote the island's traditional cuisine, village activities, and attractions such as pokkali rice cultivation, pottery, and mural artistry, while also ensuring that the development is done in an ecologically responsible manner.
