Kids Whip Up Big Macs & PB&J French Toast!

Young culinary enthusiasts are discovering the joy of cooking at the Peter McKee Community Centre in Moncton. Children aged eight to 12 have been flocking to Saturday morning classes, transforming the city's largest food bank into a bustling kitchen. Participants are learning to prepare a diverse range of dishes, from unique Big Mac salads to creative peanut butter and jelly french toast.

The program goes beyond simple recipes, offering valuable lessons in nutrition and explaining how different nutrients benefit the body. This educational aspect is complemented by the significant boost in self-confidence that students experience as they master new skills and present their own creations, a favorite part for co-ordinator Julianna Mutch.

Many young attendees, like 11-year-old Jet Forbes, find these classes engaging, with some parents noting their children's enthusiasm for cooking sessions often surpasses their interest in regular schooling. The classes provide practical skills and foster a sense of accomplishment, making them a highlight of the week for these junior chefs.
