John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy's former Georgetown residence, known as Marbury House, has sold for $6.125 million. The couple originally purchased the historic home in Washington, DC, for $82,000 in 1957. This property served as their Washington base during Kennedy's influential political career and their early family life.
Marbury House was where the Kennedys lived while he was a US senator and presidential candidate. They raised their young children, Caroline and John F. Kennedy Jr., within its walls. The residence was also a hub for political strategizing during the 1960 presidential campaign.
On January 20, 1961, the couple departed from this home for Kennedy's presidential inauguration. After moving into the White House, the Georgetown property was sold later that year. The home, built around 1811, retains its Federal-style architecture and spans 5,215 square feet with five bedrooms and six bathrooms.
