A five-year-old goldendoodle named Gwen recently experienced the disorienting effects of jet lag after a seven-hour transatlantic flight from London to New York. Her owner, Sam, and husband Nick won the dog-friendly journey through a giveaway hosted by K9 Jets in partnership with Crufts, embarking on a nearly three-week exploration of the eastern United States.
Upon arrival in New York and subsequent travel to Boston, Gwen began showing signs of fatigue due to the four-hour time difference. A TikTok video shared by Sam captured the adorable moment Gwen struggled to stay awake during a dinner outing, her head drooping as she fought off sleepiness. This happened around her usual bedtime back home.
Despite the initial challenges, Gwen proved to be a resilient traveler. She adapted to the new routine by resting and napping between the family's explorations. Their itinerary included visits to New York, Boston, Salem, Harvard University, Newport, Washington D.C., and Philadelphia, where Gwen even sampled Philly cheesesteaks.
Experts confirm that dogs, like humans, can experience disruptions to their circadian rhythms when crossing time zones. Changes in routine, environment, and the stimulation of travel can contribute to fatigue. However, most dogs adjust relatively quickly with adequate rest, hydration, and familiar comforts, allowing them to return to their normal behavior within a short period.
