Singer and UNICEF UK Ambassador Jessie Ware recently visited Uttar Pradesh, India, to support the Dove Self-Esteem Project in partnership with UNICEF. Ware engaged with local students, finding their conversations about confidence and self-acceptance to be universally relatable.
During her visit, Ware participated in interactive workshops designed to help teenagers navigate appearance pressures and gender expectations. These sessions utilized creative tools such as the 'Aadha Full' comic book series, role-playing, and discussions to foster self-esteem.
The initiative has already shown tangible results, with students like 13-year-old Gauri reporting a greater understanding of gender equality. Seventeen-year-old Anushka noted the program's focus on self-development amidst societal pressures. Fourteen-year-old Ayush shared how the lessons influenced his actions at home, promoting equality in household chores.
Dr. Philip Goodwin, CEO of UNICEF UK, highlighted the critical role of self-perception in a child's development and future opportunities. He emphasized that investing in youth well-being is paramount for empowering young people. The global partnership between Dove and UNICEF has reached over 160 million young people worldwide, including more than 21 million in India.
