Summary
- Italy's Trentino region offers €100,000 for property renovation.
- The incentive targets abandoned homes in depopulated villages.
- Applicants must commit to living in or renting the property for a decade.

The Trentino region in northern Italy is extending a unique offer of up to €100,000 to individuals willing to relocate and renovate abandoned properties. This initiative, set in villages known for their picturesque scenery and proximity to Lake Garda, aims to combat depopulation.
The program provides €20,000 for property purchase and a €80,000 grant for refurbishment. Participants must commit to inhabiting or renting the property for a minimum of ten years to avoid reimbursing the funds.
This "experimental action" seeks to strengthen social cohesion and build an identity community network within areas experiencing significant population decline. The Trentino province has allocated €10 million over two years to support this vital measure.
Eligibility excludes individuals under 45 currently residing in the region. The initiative also allows funding for multiple properties per village, provided rental rates remain moderate. Refurbishment costs are capped, limiting personal investment by prospective owners.
