The Iskcon temple in Noida's Sector 33 was vibrantly decorated for its Janmashtami celebrations on Friday, September 5, 2024. This year's festivities featured an extensive culinary offering of 508 bhogs, a record for the temple. The spread included traditional Indian sweets and savories such as laddus, makhan mishri, and kheer, alongside international favorites like pasta, pizza, and cakes, prepared with a child's preferences in mind.
An estimated 5 lakh devotees, with many traveling from countries like the US, France, Germany, and Malaysia, joined the celebrations. The temple management committee reported that the day-long event was live-streamed on YouTube. Preparations included a large pandal decorated with real and artificial flowers, a performance by the Govinda Rock Band, and children from Prahlad school.
Festivities commenced with midnight celebrations, including the Panchagavya Abhisheka, a ceremonial bathing of the Lord. Devotional programs continued from 4:30 am on Saturday, September 6, 2024, with mangal aarti, darshan, chanting, and prasad distribution. Special 'Phool Bangla' decorations and silver swings for Laddu Gopal were also part of the arrangements.
Security was enhanced with door-frame and hand-held metal detectors. Over 1,500 volunteers assisted attendees throughout the event. Similar celebrations were noted at the Sanatan Dharm temple in Sector 19 and other local temples, with traffic diversions in place around the main venue.
