Fitness and lifestyle influencer Tara Woodcox sparked widespread backlash in November by sharing a TikTok video demonstrating how to wash dirty underwear using a hotel coffee machine. She described the method as a 'coolest travel hack ever,' suggesting placing underwear in the coffee grounds compartment and brewing with hot water, then drying with a blow dryer.
The public reaction was overwhelmingly negative, with many viewers expressing disgust and calling the advice 'unsanitary' and a 'public health issue.' Several content creators accused Woodcox of creating 'rage bait.' A hotel representative indicated they were addressing the issue directly with Woodcox.
In a follow-up video, Woodcox claimed she had never actually performed the hack but posted it as a warning against using hotel coffee pots. She attributed the idea to a flight attendant friend. Despite this explanation, the controversy intensified.
Simultaneously, Woodcox has been dealing with significant personal challenges. In January, she filed for divorce from her husband of 14 years, Zachary Woodcox, citing irreconcilable differences. She also sought a temporary restraining order, alleging fears of harassment.
The divorce documents reveal Woodcox's request to be the primary residential parent for their three children and to receive child and spousal support. She also expressed concerns that her husband might attempt to conceal assets or remove the children from the court's jurisdiction.
Woodcox previously attempted to file for divorce in December 2024, but that filing was dismissed. In December 2025, she had publicly shared her struggles with her husband's post-military trauma, describing how his "wounds" from war impacted their family life and her role in managing their household and children alone.
