California-based influencer Chloe Chung has responded to significant public backlash regarding her decision to freeze-dry her deceased dog, MisTricks. The black supermutt passed away in August 2024 after a lymphoma diagnosis. Chung revealed her choice in an Instagram post on January 18, showcasing MisTricks's freeze-dried body in a glass case at her home.

Chung stated that preserving MisTricks was a "stressful decision." Initially planning cremation, she ultimately sought a pet preservationist, finding solace in seeing her companion's face again. She has experienced ongoing grief but finds comfort in MisTricks's physical presence at home.

Thousands of commenters reacted, with some calling the preservation "traumatizing" or "creepy." In a follow-up video on January 21, Chung acknowledged the controversy, asserting her commitment to normalizing pet grief in all its forms. She highlighted receiving messages from individuals who, like her, found comfort in pet preservation but feared online judgment.

Chung emphasized that criticism does not deter her, as the "hate" is increasing the video's reach and prompting supportive messages from others. She noted that many pet owners were unaware freeze-drying was an option or were hesitant to explore it due to societal stigma, and she is thankful MisTricks can help others navigate end-of-life choices.
