Indore commenced its Navratri celebrations on Sunday, with festivities unfolding across the city. Approximately 1,500 garba pandals began their musical and dance events, attracting residents dressed in vibrant traditional clothing. This communal celebration runs parallel to the spiritual observances at numerous temples.
Major temples in Indore were adorned with lights and flowers, preparing for the nine-day festival. Special pujas and abhishek ceremonies were scheduled, with enhanced arrangements at shrines like Bijasan Mata temple to manage the expected large numbers of devotees.
At Bijasan Mata temple, an additional queue was established to facilitate darshan. The temple is notable for housing goddess Bijasan Mata alongside her nine sisters. Devotees offered chunaris and sought blessings, participating in rituals that included ghata sthapana and adornment of the goddess.
Annapurna temple observed ghata sthapana during the Abhijit muhurta, with eleven priests commencing a Saptachandi Yagna. Daily rituals including abhishek, aarti, and chhappan bhog were planned, with the goddess to be adorned multiple times daily. Khichdi prasad was arranged for visitors.
Harsiddhi Mata temple also prepared a schedule of special shringar, abhishek, and puja throughout Navratri. A havan for Ashtami was planned, followed by kanya pujan and a bhandara on Navami. Security measures and separate queues were in place to ensure smooth darshan for devotees.
Meanwhile, garba pandals became hubs of community activity, with music setting a lively pace. Groups gathered to perform garba, fostering a spirit of togetherness. For many young people, the start of Navratri represented the culmination of preparations for outfits and social gatherings centered around the dance events.
