Summary
- Two Indian restaurants, Masque and NAAR, achieved global recognition.
- Masque ranked No. 26, and NAAR secured No. 49 on The 50 Best list.
- NAAR also received the Sustainable Restaurant Award for its practices.
For the first time since 2007, India has two restaurants featured on The 50 Best Restaurants 2026 global list. Mumbai's Masque earned the No. 26 position, and Kasauli's NAAR was ranked No. 49 at the awards ceremony held in Lima, Peru, on November 4.
Masque, led by Chef Varun Totlani and entrepreneurs Aditi and Aditya Dugar, has a decade-long mission to explore "what India tastes like." NAAR, under Chef Prateek Sadhu, not only made the list but also received the Sustainable Restaurant Award. This award highlights NAAR's dedication to utilizing local producers, engaging with the community, and employing low-impact cooking techniques.
NAAR's sustainable practices include wood-fired cooking, preserving ingredients through fermentation and drying, and minimizing waste by reusing offcuts. Chef Sadhu further supports this mission through the Prateek Sadhu Foundation, focusing on seed saving and heritage ingredients.
The prestigious rankings are determined by over 1,000 international food experts who evaluate restaurants based on their dining experiences within the past 18 months.
