- Caste preference dropped significantly from 91% to 54%.
- Most users prioritize finding the right partner over age/money.

India's approach to marriage is undergoing a profound transformation, as detailed by a recent analysis of user trends on a major matchmaking platform between 2016 and 2025. The median age for users seeking a partner has risen from 27 to 29, with 50% now starting their search at 29.
Finding the right partner has become paramount, with 90% of users in a 2026 survey stating it's more important than age or financial stability. This marks a shift from viewing marriage as a milestone to achieve at a 'correct' time.
Caste preferences among users have seen a sharp decline, dropping from 91% in 2016 to 54% by 2025. Simultaneously, Delhi-NCR has become a significant 'marriage magnet,' attracting users from numerous Tier-2 cities.
The perception of remarriage is also softening, with profiles for second marriages growing from 11% in 2016 to 16% in 2025. About 15% of interest in these profiles comes from never-married users, suggesting a destigmatisation of divorce.
Financial roles in marriage are also being redefined. 42% of users believe partners should contribute equally, and 87% of men are comfortable marrying women who earn more. Despite waiting longer to search, individuals are eager to marry quickly once a compatible partner is found, with 78% wanting to wed within six months.
