The Emmaus charity has launched a new initiative, the Men's Move-on House project, to support five men transitioning from homelessness.
This seven-month pilot program offers accommodation at All Hallows Convent in Ditchingham, Norfolk. It focuses on equipping residents, referred to as companions, with essential life skills such as DIY, budgeting, and cooking.
Beyond practical skills, the project includes therapy and guidance on tenancy sustainment and problem-solving. The goal is to prepare men for employment and the challenges of independent living outside the charity's safe community environment.
Charity leaders noted that many men expressed a desire to leave but feared the transition. This project addresses those fears by building self-esteem and confidence, aiming to prevent isolation and ensure sustainable futures.
