Quinn Strang, a 20-year-old from Moncton, has embarked on an ambitious journey to hitchhike across Canada. Inspired by Terry Fox, Strang is following the same route to raise $100,000 for the IWK Health Centre in Halifax and the Terry Fox Foundation.
Strang's personal motivation stems from his battle with Ewing sarcoma, a cancer he was diagnosed with at age 15. Facing a grim prognosis, he persevered through treatment and relapsed, ultimately undergoing a femur transplant. Now cancer-free for three years, he feels compelled to give back.
His journey began in St. John's and has progressed to Ottawa, with plans to return to Moncton by mid-June. Along the way, he's received unique rides, including one from a man who met Terry Fox as a child and a Mustang convertible offered by a dealership, facilitated by a former schoolmate and fellow cancer survivor, Cameron Dillon.
Strang documents his travels on social media, linking to an online fundraiser. While undertaking this challenging feat for a cause close to his heart, he advises caution regarding hitchhiking, especially for women, due to inherent risks.
