Historic Estate Where Celebrities Wed Now For Sale

Stapleford Park, a significant Grade I-listed country estate in Leicestershire, England, has been listed for sale approximately one year after ceasing operations as a luxury hotel. The property boasts a rich history, dating back to the 11th century, and has been a venue for numerous high-profile guests and events. Royal figures such as George VI and Edward VIII have visited, and celebrities including Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, and Will Smith have stayed at the estate. Notably, it served as the wedding venue for Peter Crouch and Abbey Clancy in 2011, and they returned to renew their vows in 2023.

The expansive estate covers 54 acres and includes the main hall with 48 bedrooms, a seven-room spa and wellness centre, four tennis courts, and an indoor swimming pool. The grounds have also made appearances on screen, featured in an episode of The Avengers. A unique feature is the miniature railway that traverses the parkland. The property is being marketed with the potential for various new uses, including a return as a country house hotel, conversion into a members' club, or restoration as a private residence.

Originally comprising two manors reunited in the early 16th century, the estate was held by the Sherard family for nearly 500 years. Renowned landscape designer Capability Brown redesigned the parkland and hall during their ownership. After being sold in 1885, it passed through several hands before American restaurateur Bob Payton purchased it in 1988, investing heavily to transform it into a hotel. Later, British businessman Peter de Savray oversaw the addition of its modern wellness facilities and indoor pool.
