Summary
- Responsible tourism supports remote Himalayan communities and traditions.
- Village Ways empowers locals, addressing urban migration since 2005.
- Over 7,000 guests have benefited around 5,000 people in India.

Village Ways has dedicated 21 years to pioneering low-impact tours in India's remote Himalayan foothills. This initiative supports traditional ways of life and showcases pristine landscapes. Launched in 2005, the model aims to counteract urban migration by empowering rural communities through tourism.
The organization operates primarily in Uttarakhand, India, with accommodations in village-built guesthouses. Funds are distributed evenly, with committees making joint decisions. Village Ways has expanded from five villages to over 30 across different regions of India.
Binser Wildlife Sanctuary, established in 1988, is a key area where Village Ways transformed the local relationship with the forest. Former hunters now serve as guides, sharing their knowledge of wildlife and local traditions, thereby renewing pride in their heritage.
The initiative has attracted government attention and is expanding its model to other states. Village Ways also supports local healthcare through a charitable trust, training women to run mobile clinics. To date, 7,000 guests have visited, benefiting around 5,000 people, with 470 villagers involved in decision-making committees across six states.
