24 Feb
Summary
- Nearly half of UK travelers seek lighter, functional meals on flights.
- Fresh ingredients and low-sugar options are top passenger requests.
- Younger travelers lead demand for gut-friendly and protein-rich snacks.

A recent nationwide poll reveals that 47% of UK travelers are actively seeking healthier in-flight meal options, moving away from traditional carb-heavy choices. Passengers are increasingly prioritizing fresh, minimally processed ingredients, with 56% expressing this preference. Consequently, 50% are calling for airlines to introduce low-sugar and low-carb alternatives.
This shift also extends to beverages, as 41% of passengers now opt for juices and vitamin-infused drinks over alcohol. Hydration is a key concern for 53% of travelers, while 46% desire low-calorie, portion-controlled meals. Younger travelers are particularly vocal, requesting items like kombucha, grain bowls, and protein-rich snacks.
Nearly one in five travelers are willing to pay more for meals that boost immune or digestive health. While many acknowledge an improvement in airline food, 41% believe wellness options still lag behind passenger expectations. This indicates a significant opportunity for airlines to adapt their catering to meet evolving passenger demands for healthier travel experiences.
