Greene County is embarking on a unique celebration for America's 250th birthday with the launch of the Greene County Heritage Trail. This initiative aims to engage residents and visitors by encouraging them to explore the county's rich history.
The Greene County Convention and Visitors Bureau, in partnership with the Greene County Archives, has curated a trail encompassing 50 significant historical locations. Participants can navigate these sites using a digital or paper passport, answering questions at each stop to deepen their historical understanding.
Among the archive's vast holdings are records detailing African American genealogy and land documents dating back 250 years, some connected to the Revolutionary War. Organizers are excited about this project and aim to foster a greater appreciation for Greene County's past.
To qualify for prizes, participants must visit a minimum of 25 historical sites. The deadline for completing the trail to be eligible for these rewards is September 30th.
