- Theme 'Cold World. Brilliant People' highlights community resilience.
- Event faces reduced funding, impacting meals and vendor support.

Green Bay's seventh annual Juneteenth celebration is scheduled for June 13 at Joannes Park, focusing on the theme "Cold World. Brilliant People." This theme emphasizes the ongoing resilience and fight for freedom within marginalized communities, particularly the Black community.
Executive Director Robin Scott of We All Rise: African American Resource Center noted that Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people in 1865, symbolizing freedom as an ongoing pursuit. She highlighted that marginalized communities continuously navigate challenges like housing, mental health, and educational disparities, especially amid a climate that scrutinizes diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
The organization faces decreased financial support, impacting this year's event. The community meal, typically serving 1,000, will now serve 500. Additionally, We All Rise cannot afford to provide vendors with tables and chairs, an expense of $3,775.
The celebration aims to provide a safe space for community members to connect. The day begins with a parade at 11:30 a.m. from the We All Rise Center to Joannes Park, followed by music, food, vendors, and family activities from noon to 7 p.m. The event concludes with a hula hoop celebration and the first-ever community karaoke session.
