Goldman Stars' Magazine Shoot Sparks Internal Firestorm
6 Mar
Summary
- Two Goldman Sachs employees featured in a magazine spread.
- Goldman's media relations denies approving the interviews.
- Past executives faced repercussions for boasting about wealth.

A recent photo shoot in Interview Magazine featuring young professionals from Wall Street, including two from Goldman Sachs Group Inc., has ignited internal discussions at the investment bank.
Investment banking analyst Mason Clarke and sales trading associate Clay Nelson, both in their mid-20s, participated in the feature titled "Meet the Finest Boys in Finance." Upon confronting executives, at least one employee reportedly believed compliance had approved their involvement. However, Goldman Sachs' media relations department clarified that they did not authorize these interviews.
The incident has drawn parallels to past events at the firm. Former CEO Lloyd Blankfein recalled Jim Cramer's exit in 1986 after boasting about his wealth to the New York Times. The article also featured Thomas Doherty of Barclays Plc and Demarre Johnson of PwC.
Clarke advised living "below your means" while showcasing luxury brands, and Nelson described his ideal scenario as a "continuous DJ set." Both employees' sentiments and their participation in the shoot are now under internal review.
