- 400 hosts signed up for meet-ups in six countries.
- Initiative aims to create meaningful connections between people.

A campaign conceived to tackle loneliness by facilitating conversations between strangers in pubs has expanded to encompass six additional countries. The initiative, named "Empty Chairs," was started by Dean Perryman after the death of his best friend. Perryman organized daily meet-ups in pubs across Essex and London during December, promoting his whereabouts on his website.
This effort has since attracted 400 participants who have committed to hosting similar gatherings in Belgium, Canada, Australia, Norway, Switzerland, and the United States. Participants, like Thale Kalbakk in Norway and Belén Luna Sanz in Belgium, have highlighted the profound impact of these meetings in combating feelings of isolation, especially during dark winter months or amidst extensive social contact.
Federico Lamanna in Switzerland and Jill McFarland in Canada also shared their experiences, emphasizing the program's ability to foster new connections and honor loved ones. McFarland noted that one attendee, a 79-year-old woman who rarely left her home, was overjoyed to attend, underscoring the initiative's success in encouraging people to reconnect and find companionship.
