Buttonwood Park Zoo in New Bedford is providing free admission opportunities throughout the summer to ensure all families can enjoy its attractions. The "Ward Wednesdays" initiative offers residents from a specific New Bedford ward free entry each week, requiring only proof of address. These special Wednesdays run from July 15 through August 19, with a different ward featured weekly.
Beyond Ward Wednesdays, the zoo has scheduled several other free admission days. June 14 and June 21 (Father's Day) offered free entry to all guests, sponsored by the New Bedford Police Department and the Highland Street Foundation, respectively. Additionally, August 25 will host another Free Fun Day courtesy of the Highland Street Foundation.
The zoo's grounds feature five main areas showcasing a variety of animals in naturalistic habitats. Visitors can see bison, cougars, black bears, river otters, bald eagles, harbor seals, various reptiles, monkeys, sloths, and red pandas. Emily the elephant is a notable resident, with exhibits also featuring red pandas and red-crowned cranes.
