Sydney Malayali Builds Free Malayalam Library

A Keralite expatriate in Sydney, Australia, is establishing a free lending library for Malayalam books. Siju Jacob, originally from Chingavanam in Kottayam district, has been actively collecting books from Kerala, some purchased and others donated by individuals and organizations. These books are being sent to his residence in Orange, near Sydney.

Jacob, a published author himself and a decade-long resident of Sydney, aims to make literature accessible to the diaspora. He noted that the expense and difficulty in obtaining Malayalam books overseas often deter readers, inspiring his library project.

The library will be housed in two rooms of his Sydney home. Jacob plans to offer books for free reading and borrowing, ensuring the Malayali community can access their literary heritage without financial barriers.

A particular focus will be placed on children's literature. Jacob intends for the younger generation to stay connected with the culture and literary traditions of Kerala through this accessible resource.
