Food insecurity remains a significant challenge in Northwest Indiana, affecting nearly one in seven residents. With recent disruptions to federal nutrition programs like SNAP and WIC, local food banks and mobile markets are crucial in providing essential support.
The Mobile Market has released its December distribution schedule, offering free meals across various locations in the region. Additionally, select distribution sites will provide holiday hams to families on a first-come, first-served basis, as supplies permit.
These initiatives underscore the community's commitment to ensuring that families have access to nutritious food, especially during the holiday season. The efforts by local pantries aim to bridge the gap created by federal program inconsistencies.
