Summary
- A free Christmas grotto offers festive joy to children in a deprived area.
- Inspired by high prices, a local woman created the grotto for all children.
- The grotto organizer also runs youth and employment programs year-round.

In one of the UK's most deprived areas, a free Christmas grotto is spreading holiday cheer, thanks to the dedication of local resident Rhiannon Canavan. Ms. Canavan, who lives in Page Moss, Knowsley, was motivated by the "extortionate" prices of commercial grottos. She established the attraction at The Gate Community Centre to ensure that all children, regardless of their parents' financial situation, can visit Santa and experience the festive spirit.
The community centre is transformed with festive decorations, including illuminated snowmen, Christmas characters, elves, and Santa himself. This initiative highlights Ms. Canavan's deep commitment to her community. Her involvement extends far beyond the Christmas season, as she actively manages various community groups throughout the year.
Ms. Canavan also spearheads youth sessions, pensioner activities, and employment courses, aiming to guide young people and assist adults in finding work. Her efforts have earned her a BBC North West Christmas Star award, recognizing her tireless work in maintaining community spirit and support. Local residents have lauded her as a "star" who dedicates everything to the community.
