8 Feb
Summary
- Two French friends completed a 1.5-year journey on foot.
- They traveled 12,850 kilometers across 16 countries.
- Environmental concerns motivated their flightless adventure.

Loic Voisot and Benjamin Humblot, friends since childhood, celebrated the culmination of their remarkable 1.5-year trek from Annecy, France, to Shanghai on Saturday. Their journey commenced in September 2024 and spanned 518 days, covering an astonishing 12,850 kilometers across 16 countries. The duo chose to travel entirely on foot, with a brief bus segment in Russia for safety, to minimize their environmental impact and address climate change concerns.
Motivated by a shared desire for a "great adventure" and conscious of humanity's role in climate change, Voisot and Humblot embarked on this ambitious, flightless expedition. They faced significant hardships, including severe winter conditions and a challenging desert crossing in Uzbekistan. Despite these trials, their determination never wavered, embodying a commitment to their cause and to personal willpower.
Upon their arrival on Shanghai's Bund promenade, the adventurers expressed immense pride in their accomplishment, acknowledging the daily thoughts of this moment over the past year. While they generally ate well, they humorously noted missing French cheese. Voisot's immediate plan after this monumental journey was simple: "sleep a lot!"
