Caravan nightmare: Chipped glass, pool ban ruin family break
23 Jun
Summary
- Caravan was unclean and smelled bad upon arrival.
- Child cut lip on chipped glass left in the caravan.
- Daughter asked to leave pool for wearing sensory-friendly clothing.

A family's caravan holiday in Blackpool, from June 5 to June 8, was significantly disrupted by a series of problems. Upon arrival at Haven Marton Mere Holiday Village, the Roberts family found their accommodation was not properly cleaned, with cleaning staff still present and an unpleasant smell lingering. The caravan's condition did not meet their expectations.
Further issues arose when 15-year-old Kai Roberts cut his lip on a chipped drinking glass discovered in a cupboard. The most distressing incident occurred at the swimming pool, where 12-year-old Ella Roberts was asked to leave the water by a lifeguard. Her sensory-friendly swimwear, consisting of a T-shirt and shorts, was deemed inappropriate despite being purchased from the swim section and essential for her comfort.
Despite explaining Ella's sensory needs and observing other children in similar attire, the family felt she was singled out. They were offered to purchase swimwear on-site, which they found frustrating. A complaint was lodged, and the family later received a £50 voucher as an apology, which they felt was an inadequate response to their ruined holiday experience.
