Duchess of Edinburgh Returns After 3-Week Royal Absence
14 Apr
Summary
- Duchess Sophie resumed royal duties on Monday after a 21-day gap.
- She opened the Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Veterans' Centre in London.
- Sophie had been unwell and taking time for family during her break.

The Duchess of Edinburgh has made a notable return to public duties following a more than three-week hiatus from the public eye. Sophie, 61, was absent from traditional Easter services earlier this month. She was last seen publicly on March 23. This break created an unexpected 21-day interval between her public engagements.
On Monday, the Duchess was seen resuming her duties, looking radiant as she formally opened the Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Veterans' Centre at Royal Hospital Chelsea in London. The centre aims to provide a welcoming space for veterans. She also attended a reception at St. James's Palace.
Sophie had been feeling "under the weather" and was also likely spending time with her children during their university and school breaks. It is understood the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh spent their Easter break at Sandringham.
She has several upcoming engagements, including attending a conference as patron of Plan International UK and an exhibition as Royal Patron of the Treloar Trust on Wednesday. Her diary shows no further engagements until April 30, when she is scheduled for visits in Shropshire.
