A cocker spaniel discovered in severe condition last month is now recovering remarkably after years of neglect. On May 7, deputies found the dog, later named Mr. Pickles, inside a closet during a welfare check at a residence where the owner was found deceased. This marked the worst neglect case ever encountered by rescuers.
Mr. Pickles was transferred to Longleaf Animal Rescue and then to VEG ER for Pets. Veterinary staff spent approximately five hours removing 12 pounds of severely matted fur and a soiled protective cone. Veterinarians also treated a severe ear infection, removed a tumor, and collected biopsies for growths.
Believed to be about six years old, Mr. Pickles was initially terrified of human contact. However, he has since begun seeking affection, demonstrating incredible resilience. His recovery journey has garnered international attention online, with supporters eagerly following his progress and hoping for his eventual adoption.
