22 Dec
Summary
- A dog underwent emergency surgery after swallowing ceramic bauble pieces.
- Sharp shards ingested by the dog posed a severe internal risk.
- Owners are urged to secure Christmas decorations from pets.

Pet owners have been issued a stark warning about the dangers of Christmas decorations following a dramatic incident where a dog swallowed a ceramic bauble. Milo, a one-year-old golden retriever, ingested more than half of a bauble from his owners' Christmas tree, necessitating urgent veterinary intervention.
Upon arrival at Blaise Veterinary Referral Hospital, Milo underwent a complex endoscopical procedure to safely retrieve the sharp fragments from his stomach. After a tense four-hour wait, the dog was cleared of immediate internal damage and was able to return home the same evening. Other pieces had moved to his intestine, but a home-cooked remedy was provided to help him pass them.
Veterinarians emphasize that while Milo was fortunate due to his size and how he crunched the ornament, such incidents can be fatal, especially for smaller pets. Owners are advised to keep all decorations out of reach to prevent similar frightening situations and ensure a safe holiday season for their animal companions.
