As the summer season winds down, the UK's beautiful beaches remain a top destination for those seeking a peaceful coastal escape. According to new research by Millets, several of the country's most breathtaking seaside spots are actually best visited outside of the peak summer months.
Leading the pack is Sandsend Beach in North Yorkshire, a sand and shingle beach located between Whitby and Staithes. This long stretch of golden sand, backed by cliffs and dunes, offers stunning views of the iconic Whitby Abbey, especially at sunset. Visitors can even walk the three-mile path to the abbey, which inspired Bram Stoker's Dracula, making it an excellent Halloween destination.
Further north, Bamburgh Beach in Northumberland sits beneath the impressive 3,000-year-old Bamburgh Castle, providing panoramic views of the Farne Islands and the North Sea. This popular spot for families, dog walkers, and surfers is known for its excellent water quality, classified as the highest and cleanest rating by the Environment Agency.
Taking third place is West Sands Beach in St Andrews, a sandy bay renowned for its appearance in the opening scene of the film Chariots of Fire. This two-mile stretch of uninterrupted sand, backed by dunes and world-famous golf courses, is a popular spot for walking, running, and swimming, with plenty of wet weather alternatives nearby.
