Disabled Senior Dog's Viral TikTok Video Leads to Loving Forever Home

In November 2025, Toby, a disabled senior dog, is finally getting his happy ending. Just under a year ago, Toby was found as a stray in Haiku, Hawaii, and taken to the Maui Humane Society (MHS) shelter. When he first arrived, Toby was terrified, hiding behind his bed in his kennel, unsure of his new surroundings.

Volunteer Cassondra Christman, who was doing her rounds at the shelter, was heartbroken to see Toby's fear and uncertainty. Toby, estimated to be around 5 years old, is vision-impaired and slightly hearing-impaired, adding to his struggles in the unfamiliar shelter environment. Despite the love and care from the MHS staff and a dedicated foster parent, Toby struggled to find a forever home.

Determined to showcase Toby's story, Christman created a TikTok video that went viral, racking up over 394,000 views. The power of social media proved to be the key to Toby's happy ending, as the video caught the eye of the perfect adopter. Toby is now flying off the island to his new forever home on the West Coast, leaving behind the fear and uncertainty of the shelter for the comfort and security of a loving family.
